Truman State University

Welcome to the Greenhouse

The Truman State University greenhouse is a 3,000 square foot facility on the South side of Magruder Hall. In addition to being the main repository for the University’s plant collections, it also provides a place for students from across campus to come together. Most of the daily plant care operations are performed by a large staff of student workers from many of Truman’s academic departments. The greenhouse also hosts a biannual plant sale on Reading Day of the spring and fall semesters.

We house a diverse spectrum in plant life.

The specimen collections boast a diverse array of plant species ranging from aquatic, tropical, desert, carnivorous, and exotic. Almost all the major plant phyla from moss to angiosperms are represented by live specimens.

Inside the Greenhouse

The greenhouse is subdivided into three different climate-controlled rooms which enable us to sustain plant life that require different temperatures and amounts of light.
